Questions, answered.
Everything people ask about cold storage, restores, the free trial and keeping an archive with Oneloft.
The questions people ask most
Do I need to give up Google Drive, iCloud or Dropbox?
No. Keep your drive for the files you use every week. Oneloft holds everything else, so most people drop their drive to a smaller plan.
What is cold storage?
Files you rarely need, kept on lower-cost infrastructure. They still show up in search with names, dates and previews. You restore a file before downloading the original.
Why does a restore take hours?
Cold storage is slower to read and much cheaper to run, and that saving goes to you. Restores finish within 12 hours, usually sooner. We email you the moment a file is ready, and the restored copy stays available for 3 days.
What if I need something urgently?
Keep time-sensitive work on your drive. If you know you’ll need a project from the loft soon, request it ahead of time.
Will Oneloft ever delete my files?
Not for inactivity, and we never compress originals. Files are only removed when you delete them (they wait in Deleted files for 30 days), when you delete your account, or after a cancelled subscription has been over for 90 days.
How does the free trial work?
Every plan starts with 14 days free. A card is required, and nothing is charged until the trial ends. Uploads during the trial are capped at 1 TB; start your subscription early if you need more. Cancel before the trial ends and you won’t be charged.
What are the monthly downloads?
Downloading an original counts against your plan’s monthly allowance (20, 30 or 50 GB). Browsing, search and previews are unlimited and don’t count. Need more? Add a 50 GB or 100 GB pack any time; it lasts until the end of the month.
Which file types do you preview?
Pictures and videos your browser can display: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF and AVIF images, and MP4, MOV and WebM video. Every other file, including RAW, TIFF, HEIC, PSD, PDF and audio, is stored untouched and shows a file-type icon; you can still search for it by name and restore the original.
Are my files private?
Yes. Files are encrypted in transit and at rest, and we never sell them or use them to train AI. You can also mark files and folders private, which hides them behind a code we email you.
Is there a file size limit?
Up to 100 GB per file. Large uploads are sent in parts and retried if your connection drops.
What happens if I cancel?
Your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. After that you can still browse your files, but downloads and uploads pause until you resubscribe. We keep them for 90 days (7 days if you never paid) and email you before they’re deleted. Nothing is in a proprietary format.
Is Oneloft a backup or sync service?
No. Oneloft is an archive: a place to keep files you rarely open. It does not sync folders or run in the background on your computer. For anything you could not replace, keep another copy somewhere else too.
Can I share files with other people?
Not yet. An Oneloft account is for one person, and sharing is not part of the service today.
Is there a desktop or mobile app?
Oneloft runs in your web browser on desktop and mobile. There is no separate app yet.
Where are my files stored?
On Amazon Web Services in the United States (US East, N. Virginia), encrypted in transit and at rest.
How much does it cost?
Essential (3 TB) is $9.99 a month, Plus (5 TB) is $14.99 and Pro (10 TB) is $27.99, each with a 14-day free trial. Prices are also available in pounds, euros, Canadian and Australian dollars. See the pricing page for the full details.
How do I cancel?
In your settings, open Billing and choose Manage payment and invoices. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for.
Do I get a refund if I cancel?
Cancel before your trial ends and you are not charged at all. After that, payments are non-refundable except where the law gives you a right to one, such as the 14-day cancellation right for UK and EU consumers. The Terms of Service have the details.
